Chalet Pecchio in Le Miroir, Sainte Foy Tarentaise

Summer at Chalet Pecchio

Cycling and Tours / Painting Courses / Walking Trips / Photography Courses

Perfect for a summer getaway, the ambiant temperatures, lush vegetation and flowers offer spectacular scenery and clear air. Spending time in the Alps in the summer months is a lesser known treat than the popular winter resort environment, but once tried will surely be re-visited.

The mountain 'cols' through to Italy open up to offer stunning views, and enjoyable days out with delicious wines, cured hams, pasta lunches and Italian ice cream. Summer is also a time when there are lots of local concerts, fêtes and wine fairs.

Summer sporting activities include mountain biking, road biking, via ferrata, canyoning, swimming, adventure parks (ideal for children), horseback riding, summer skiing, golf and tennis.

Walking Holidays

Summer walking holidays in the French Alps

The walking in the Tarentaise, Maurienne and Beaufortain Valleys is superb and the opportunities are almost limitless. We have alpine meadows, which in late June and July are carpeted with a spectacular display of mountain flowers, lakes, forests, glaciers and beautiful clear air between the Vanoise National Park, Mont Blanc Massif and the neighbouring Gran Paradiso in Italy.

The Vanoise National Park borders the Gran Paradiso National Park across the border in Italy. Here you will find unique and varied flora and fauna. Designated a National Park since 1963, (the first in France) the Vanoise offers an ideal natural, unspoilt wilderness for walking where soaring alpine peaks rise majestically to almost 4000m above wild, remote valleys. Alpine meadows bursting with wild flowers border tumbling streams, whilst high rock walls carved by glaciers reach up to remote peaks with gleaming glaciers.

A variety of walks and treks are possible amongst this outstanding alpine scenery. They vary from moderate to challenging in nature, and use a network of trails totalling more than 600km in length. There are a host of protected species including the largest population of alpine ibex in France, plus chamois, marmottes, birds of prey and over 100 species of birds in general.

Between the high mountains and the forests and valleys below lie the "alpages"; the traditional summer pastures. Herds of cattle, sheep and goats graze peacefully with bells tinkling.

It would take a lifetime to walk all the permutations of the tracks around this valley. The rugged and varied nature of the terrain here means that we can walk through pine forests, alpine meadows and high mountainous areas. The white peaks and glaciers provide an incredible contrast to the lush greens in the valley below and wild flowers give amazing splashes of colour.

Also explore the beautiful Massif du Beaufortain, situated only about 20km south-west of the imposing bulk of Mont Blanc. It retains an authentic charm where traditional Savoyard wooden chalets blend into the hillsides. The alpine pastures are grazed by herds of cows and goats producing the renowned local cheeses. Stunning views of Mont Blanc, the highest peak in Western Europe, and the surrounding mountains are almost guaranteed.

We are extremely flexible with the arrangments for our walking holidays and can offer guided walks or we can provide detailed walking routes for self-guided holidays. We can offer half board or bed and breakfast accommodation and daily packed lunches if required. Please get in touch to discuss your requirements.
